Introduction

The Datalogic Formula continues the established success story: the easily programmable Datalogic Formula has been a popular and handheld device on the market for years. In addition to all the advantages of the previous model, the Formula adds ergonomic housing, enhanced software, an extra-large display and an improved keyboard. On top of that, it offers better durability and more options.

The Formula is a portable data collection device with integrated bar code scanner that is extremely cost-effective and easy to programme. The perfect device for on-site data collection of bar codes and additional information that require customer-specific programming. This can be for stocktaking, health-care services, shipping and receiving, home delivery services, service technicians, vending machine companies, warehouse management and many other applications – the Formula is as easy to programme as to operate. A weight of merely 200 grams, including battery, and the size of a mobile phone make the device a companion that can go everywhere. A powerful lithium-ion battery allows operation for days without recharging – even after hundreds of charging cycles. The required charging adaptor is also included in this complete data collection package. Integrate the Formula into an optional wireless Bluetooth network and into your customer’s ERP system – for real-time warehouse applications, mobile waiter terminals and much more.

Its extra-large 16x16 character display offers all important information to the users – clearly and easy to read. Navigation through the whole interface is easier than ever before. The extra-bright backlight display that is readable under direct sunlight as well as in the dark proves to be particularly useful. A numerical keypad with 25 silicone rubber keys is used for data input. In addition to normal numeric keys, it includes four function and four navigation keys. The large scan head is ergonomically located in the housing surface, which makes it possible for both right and left-handed user to reach it conveniently.

With its laser engine, the Formula reads all commercial 1D bar codes even from 90 cm distance quickly but accurately – even badly printed and damaged bar code labels. Successful scans are indicated through a two-coloured LED and an integrated piezo-electric buzzer that allows free programming of frequency and duration.

The device offers 1 MB memory for collected data and additional 512 KB RAM for programming. Memory expansions for new software and backup are possible with a user SD card slot. Customer-specific device programming can be done with software packages under Windows, like EasyGen or Development System For Formula. Generate new applications easily with this free software – for inventory, warehouse management, goods input and output and especially retail applications. Profound programming knowledge is not required. However, if you prefer your own programming on a hardware basis, Datalogic provides all relevant Libraries and DLLs that are required for C++ programming. Naturally, this includes functions like an integrated real-time clock and time recording – all accessible after a few seconds of basic programming.

The Formula is ideal for intensive use under industrial conditions: it features a high impact-resistant housing and is IP54 protected against water and dust-entry. Communication with this device is possible through one of two integrated interfaces (RS232 and USB). The optional Bluetooth interface helps to integrate the device into existing wireless networks.

The following feature is particularly interesting for owners of previous Formula models: the new devices are downward compatible with the previous Formula F743 and F725. This means programmes written for the old models can be imported easily into the new model.
