Introduction

Datalogic has developed the Gryphon scanner series in order to offer high scanning performance combined with ergonomic design and unrivalled durability. These outstanding characteristics and various application possibilities always make the Gryphon series scanners the right solution for both retail and industry. The Gryphon scanners not only easily read all standard bar codes, but also low resolution or damaged bar codes.

These high-performance scanners by Datalogic come in four different versions in order to be ready for almost any possible application in retail, warehouses, and logistics. Of course, the devices are also available for both 1D and 2D bar codes. You can order the Gryphon either as wired or wireless version with up to 30 metres operating range.

Its excellent optics allows scanning of all standard bar codes at a maximum distance of 43 cm (long-range version) with an enormous depth of field. Unlike conventional scanners with simple linear CCD components, this 2D scanner scans with a high-resolution CMOS camera. Its resolution of 640 x 480 pixels not only helps users scan bar codes, but is also good for special camera applications like signature or ID card scans. With such high resolution and special decoder software, even badly printed, dirty or torn bar codes are scanned without delay.

With omni-directional scanning, the ergonomics and speed are further increased with the 2D version when compared to normal hand-held scanners. All bar codes are read from a great distance at any angle – complicated scanner alignments can be omitted. A unique five-spot laser targeting system allows immediate intuitive targeting of the bar codes, even with multiple codes on a single label.

The Datalogic patented Green Spot makes instant read acknowledgment possible: instead of an acoustic signal, users can choose to be alerted by a clearly visible green spot on the bar code itself. Naturally, this technology is especially useful in particularly dark or noisy environments.

Very useful is the multi-interface that is integrated in all Gryphon versions: serial, USB, keyboard wedge and light pen interfaces are all integrated into a single scanner. All you need to do is order the correct cable for your system.

Using the wireless version Gryphon M is even easier. The Gryphon M130 for one dimensional bar codes supports the Datalogic Star System, which is praised as the most reliable RF system on the market. It scans in all relevant places possible anytime: the scanner immediately submits bar code data to the base station at an operating range of 30 metres. The multipoint system allows further use of up to 16 scanners at the same time without interference, even though the same frequency is used. The 433 MHz frequency is known to be stable and is licence-free. If the scanner leaves the operating radius, the scanner gives an acoustic warning signal instead of the Green Spot read confirm and stops submitting data.

For extended operating time, a powerful rechargeable battery is integrated into the grip of the portable Gryphon M version. It is not necessary to remove this battery from the device – simply put it onto the base station to recharge it automatically.

The high quality of design and workmanship of the Gryphon series does not only show excellent physical characteristics (e.g. operating temperature: 0-50° C) – an unconditional five-year Datalogic warranty is provided for all wired Gryphon scanners. The sturdy housing offers an effective rubber guard on all sides that help the device withstand even repeated drops onto concrete.
