Introduction

The MS1690 Focus is a high performance, omni-directional handheld scanner that can scan both one dimensional and two dimensional bar codes. This very sturdy scanner uses CMOS technology to scan the bar codes, making it much faster than normal handheld scanners. It is the perfect choice for applications that require highest performance, such as in industrial environments or heavily used scan stations.

Additionally, the MS1690 Focus has a clear advantage over laser scanners and conventional area imager scanners, while also being significantly easier and safer to use: first, this scanner scans omni-directionally, which means that you do not have to orient the scanner along a certain angle of the bar code, but just aim at it. It also scans even poorly printed, dirty, uneven, or torn bar codes from up to 23 centimetres distance in a split second – regardless from which angle you scan. Secondly, instead of a simple laser beam, the MS1690 Focus uses an area imager scanner to scan the entire bar code as one section for decoding. This is much faster than conventional laser scanners. The use of a full area CMOS element gives the MS1690 Focus resolution that is almost twice as high compared to conventional area imagers like those of other brands. This leads to improved and faster bar code scanning.

By removing the moving mirror optics that is usually used in laser scanners, the MS1690 Focus is particularly unbreakable. This makes it an excellent choice for inhospitable environments, such as warehouses, production facilities and workshops. Even repeated drops from 1.6 m onto concrete do not effect its reliability. The black, rubber-protected housing is easy to clean and equipped with a sealant against dust particles. Still the scanner is very light. Its low weight and ergonomic, gun-shaped housing protects the user from fatigue and makes it possible to operate much longer than other scanners.

The integrated decoder offers various setup options for interfaces, operation and data transmission, as well as interactive data manipulation (e.g. filtering specific characters, rearrangement of character strings, etc.). Its various features can either be activated by using the programming bar codes in the user’s manual, or conveniently at the computer by using the supplied software. You will need a serial cable to use the software. Like all Honeywell scanners, the MS1690 Focus is available with various optional interfaces. As the MS1690 is often used in dirty or tough environments, it is only available in black.
