Introduction

As the top model of the Honeywell Voyager class, the MS9544 provides the same reliability that is known from the MS9520 and MS9540 models. In addition to one-dimensional bar codes, the MS9544 ­VoyagerPDF is also capable of scanning two-dimensional bar codes. The scanner decodes a PDF 417 code while the user vertically guides the scanner along the bar code. The laser scans the bar code line by line at a high speed up to 190 scans per second. The data is then transmitted to the host by the integrated decoder.

Two-dimensional bar codes offer significantly higher infor­mation density than one-dimensional codes and are used in applications that require more than just the usual limited data contained in a bar code. A single PDF code can contain up to 2,000 characters. As a comparison: an EAN code can only contain 15 characters in the same sized area. Along with these advantages such as large amounts of data storage, an additional feature of this new standard is optional integrated error handling. Missing or unreadable parts in the bar code can be recon­structed with the help of remaining sections.

At the highest safety level about a third of the bar code can be missing without a loss of information.

By using an improved laser engine, the MS9544 reads at a significantly higher scan rate than other members of the Voyager family. Compared to 72 scans per second by the MS9540, this model scans at a frequency of 190 scans per second. At this speed not only PDF417 codes are scanned tremendously fast. As conventional 1D bar codes are also scanned significantly faster, overall performance is increased as well. Even badly printed codes or codes with a low contrast are scanned by the MS9544 VoyagerPDF better than with any other model.

Like the MS9540 Voyager, the MS9544 is equipped with the CodeGate function that makes scanning even easier.

Like the MS9540, the MS9544 VoyagerPDF comes in a complete set with scanner stand and a matching cable. Unlike the smaller models MS9520 and MS9540, the MS9544PDF can only be delivered in white. Please choose a compatible interface for your specific application.
