Introduction

The DS3407/3408 series from Symbol offers extra-ordinary performance and robustness for scanning 1D and 2D bar codes under industrial conditions that also comes with a number of extra features, e.g. document and picture scans or special optics for very small bar codes. These scanners are suitable for every application that requires more than just scanning of a simple bar code, or where the bar code and image scans need to be combined in a single process. These proven industrial scanners are IP65 water and dust-resistant and withstand repeated drops onto concrete from 2 metres height, or more than 2,500 drops from 1 metre height onto concrete.

All scanners in this series are equipped with a CMOS imager. In other words, they are essentially cameras that read, analyse and decode bar codes as an image. This makes scans particularly fast and accurate. Aiming the scanner at the bar code is not necessary, as the scanner recognises the bar codes from any direction. The scanner can read the bar codes, regardless of their type and size, from a distance of up to 40 cm.

Additionally, using the model 3407, your customers can also scan images and documents. From a distance of 40 cm this scanner reads not only bar codes but also documents with a maximum size of 21x28 cm. The camera is equipped with 1.3 megapixels, which equals a resolution of 1280x1024 pixels (monochrome). The 3407 is available with serial or USB interface.

The 3408 gives you the choice between standard range (SR) and high-density (HD) optics. The standard range version is suitable for all applications with normal 2D bar codes, while the high-density version is used with very small and high-resolution bar codes. The DS3408 is available with keyboard wedge, IBM interface or many other connectivity options.

The optional Intellistand for freehanded scanning is available for all scanners in the 3407/3408 family. The scanner recognises when it is put into the stand and automatically switches from trigger mode to auto-scan.
