Introduction

The wireless industrial scanner DS3478 from Symbol is a scanning solution that was especially developed for constantly changing, modern production environments. The scanner is equipped with a CCD image sensor that reads bar codes faster and more accurately than conventional scanners. The omni-directional raster of the scanner ensures that bar codes are read from any angle without having to aim the scanner directly at them. Furthermore, the DS3478 comes with a larger operating range than any other scanner in its class. With the help of its intelligent two-position smart focus technology, a feature only found in Symbol products, it reads bar codes of all sizes and resolutions. In other words, a single device is sufficient to meet all scanning requirements.

Cables between device and host system are unnecessary with this version, increasing efficiency considerably everywhere, including in the warehouse, production or retail. The 2.4 GHz Bluetooth data transfer mode supports an operating range of up to one hundred metres. The integrated rechargeable lithium-ion battery works at optimum capacity, even after hundreds of cycles, and can be recharged on the cradle of the scanner. The DS3478 is innovative and robust. Its ergonomic features and extensive functions make it one of the best scanners for scan-intensive applications under harsh industrial conditions. Standard drop tests have shown that repeated drops onto concrete from two metres height do not harm the functionality of the scanner. An IP65 compliant sealant offers protection from dust and water-splashes. The scan window is extremely scratch-resistant and located in a recess to provide extra durability. Features like these give this scanner a very long service life and reduce costs for replacements.
