Introduction

The memory bar code scanner Symbol P460 »Phaser« from Motorola is a versatile and robust high-performance device that helps your customers reduce costs and increase productivity simultaneously through exceptional flexibility, regardless if its for retail, production, logistics or warehouse applications. This wired and robust handheld scanner with its low weight is equipped with an ergonomic forward scan pistol grip.

Besides traditional bar code scanning, the scanner allows users to input additional data using its integrated 17-key keypad and to display information on its 2x20 character LCD. Each scanner is equipped with either 4 or 8 MB of internal memory. Typical applications for the keypad and display are goods reception or shipping, access control, visitor registration at events or simple POS and stocktaking applications. Previously complicated scanning processes become easy and practical with this scanner. Of course, this also includes steps that usually would require input at a PC.

The P460 »Phaser« from Motorola is quite robust and withstands multiple drops from 1.5 metres onto concrete without any damage. The ergonomic pistol scanner reads all commercial 1D bar codes at a distance of up to 40 cm, depending on bar code size and type. System integrators will benefit from the scanners easy integration and its highly programmable architecture, which offers a high degree of functionality that is rarely seen in conventional bar code scanners.

You and your customer’s creativity is never bound to limitations in terms of design and optimisation again. The quick integration is supported by the 123Scan installation programme. This free software tool provides easy configuration for data transfer as well as code activation and deactivation. It also supports users in creating ADF rules that process the bar codes before sending them to the host.

Even more flexibility is provided by the optional software MCLTM Designer, which provides a programmable architecture for expanding the scanner's functionality. Even users with no programming experience can use this software easily to create their own data management applications that effectively exploit the scanner's enormous processing power. Available functions include ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) and automation of repeated process steps, such as nightly data downloads and table updates.
