Introduction
The P470 Phaser wireless bar code scanner from Symbol Technologies is a very robust high-performance device, which provides fast and simple data collection in the entire company. This wireless handheld scanner is equipped with an ergonomic forward scan pistol grip. Besides traditional bar code scanning, it allows users the input of additional data using its integrated 17-key-keypad and the display of information on its 2 x 20 character LCD. Typical applications for keypad and display are shipping and receiving, access control, visitor registration at events, or simple POS and stocktaking applications. The scanner transmits at 2.4 GHz (Spektrum24 compatible), which allows a range of up to 30 metres from its cradle.
The P470 is quite robust and withstands drops from 1.5 metres onto concrete repeatedly without any damage. It reads all commercial 1D bar codes from a distance of up to 40 cm depending on bar code size and type. System integrators will benefit from the scanner's easy integration and its highly programmable architecture, which offers an expandable functionality that is rarely seen in conventional bar code scanners. Your and your customer’s creativity will never again be limitated in terms of design and optimisation. The quick integration is supported by the 123Scan installation programme. This free software tool provides easy configuration for data transfer as well as code activation and deactivation. It also supports users for creating ADF rules that process the bar codes before sending them to the host.
Even more flexibility is provided by the optional MCLTM Designer software, which provides a programmable architecture for expanding the scanner's functionality. Even users with no programming experience can use this software easily to create their own data management applications that exploit the scanner's enormous processing power effectively. Available functions include ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) and automation of repeated process steps, such as nightly data downloads and table updates.
